AIGA Member Maker Series: Laika Press Screenprinting Workshop
AIGA Member Maker Series: Laika Press Screenprinting Workshop

Date: May 19

Time: 11am-2pm

Ticket Price: $35/per member

Artwork Deadline: EXTENDED! Friday May 17

AIGA Reno-Tahoe is excited to share the first of our members-only workshop as part of our Member Maker Series.

Exclusively for AIGA members, we have created a series of workshops to get you off the computer, get your creativity flowing, add some skills to your tool belt, and highlight the benefits of being part of our AIGA community.

So roll up those sleeves! Our first workshop is with Laika Press, a local nonprofit co-operative printmaking lab, who will be teaching our members how to screen print from start to finish. Members will come prepared with their own one-color design that they will learn how to print from preparing the screens to exposing the emulsion to setting up the press to pulling the ink!

Snacks and beverages will be provided. All needed screen printing supplies will also be provided but we encourage you to bring anything else you might want to screen print on such as tote bags, shirts, fabric, etc.

Each member will also receive a commemorative tote bag designed in collaboration by AIGA Reno Tahoe + Laika Press. Thank you so much to Laika Press for welcoming us into their space and sharing all their knowledge on the art of screen printing with us.

Hope you see you there!

Final Artwork Details:

Each AIGA member attending will create a one-color design prior to the event. You must send your final artwork to AIGA prior to the workshop so we can print the designs on transparencies to bring them to Laika Press the day of the event.

Final size: 8.5”x11” with 0.5” blank border around

Color: One-Color

Line Detail: Keep in mind the amount of detail that can be captured through the screen printing process. We recommend line detail being no thinner than a standard Sharpie pen stroke.

Artwork Due: EXTENDED May 17 (Email leah.e.chew@gmail.com)

Why Join AIGA:

No matter who you are, you’re one of us. And together we can do amazing things.

As the largest professional association of designers in the world, AIGA is committed to advancing the value and impact of design, both locally and globally, and working together to inspire, support and learn from each other, at every stage of our careers.

About half of AIGA’s funding comes directly from membership dues, so the participation of every member really counts. The support of our members makes everything we do possible. And in turn, every participation level offers members not only a vast range of tangible benefits, such as workshops like our Maker Series, but some intangible ones as well — which can be some of the most meaningful aspects of being an AIGA member.
