A Sustainable Design Salon

August 23, 5-8pm

Cut out of work early and head to the north shore of Lake Tahoe to learn about adding more green to your work, and your office, by implementing sustainable design principles. Educate yourself with talks by nationally recognized experts from the AIGA Center for Sustainable Design, local professionals in green building design and vendors using ecological practices. Plus you can check out environmental products in the Nevada EcoNet Expo and explore the new Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences.

Phil Hamlett
AIGA Center for Sustainable Design National

Phil Phil is the Director of Graduate Graphic Design at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Prior to running the mfa Program, Phil was communications director at Turner & Associates in San Francisco. As such, he identified fundamental client objectives and facilitated the development of the core messages, conceptual frameworks and communications vehicles best suited to address those needs. His extensive experience with a wide variety of corporate communications, investor relations and print collateral materials — for companies both large and small — provides him with the perspective necessary prepare students for the challenges of the real world.

In a previous life, Phil was a principal and director of creative services for EAI/Atlanta (currently known as “Unboundary”), where he played a key role in that firm’s development into a nationally-recognized design pioneer. In addition, Hamlett is a regionally and nationally recognized design commentator and competition judge. His design publication reviews for The Library Journal are currently channeled into numerous literary web sites.

As the former chairman of the environment committee for the San Francisco chapter of the AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Artists), Phil has produced two iterations of Compostmodern, a one-day conference dedicated to providing sustainable design solutions for the graphic and industrial design communities. He is currently the cochair of the AIGA Center for Sustainable Design, an initiative providing sustainable business practice for the AIGA national organization.

A native Atlantan, Phil graduated from the University of Georgia in 1986. He currently resides in Berkeley with his wife and son, a spotted pit bull mix, and a large tank of unruly fish. http://sustainability.aiga.org/
