2009 AIGA Leadership Retreat

Inspiration, Passion, Wisdom and Change

Each year AIGA chapter board members from around the country gather to share information, make new friends and consider issues that effect the entire national membership. This year's Leadership Retreat in Portland, Oregon was attended by six Reno Tahoe chapter board members. The agenda for the three-day event was packed with inspirational stories, educational presentations, caucus-style voting, torch passing and a directional shift for the future of the organization. 

Memorable moments included a video presentation by AIGA Colorado on their (Re)design program, an emotional farewell to AIGA national President Sean Adams and a warm welcome to incoming President Debbie Millman, an amazing after party at Wieden + Kennedy's enormous Portland office and intimate group lunches with the rock stars of graphic design. The final day was capped by unanimous approval of the proposed 2014 mandate during a rousing chapter-by-chapter vote complete with cool banners, placards and speeches.

We all made some new friends, we hung out with some of the most influential designers around and we saw some exceptional work done by this very talented and dedicated group of volunteer board members. We're already looking forward to next year's retreat in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
